In Which Furnace Atmosphere Should Ceramic Fiber Modules Not Be Used Directly?

Mar 21, 2022

Ceramic fiber modules are widely used in industrial kilns and various thermal equipment due to their better thermal insulation, stability and energy-saving effects. However, in some furnaces, the ceramic fiber module cannot be used as a working layer that directly contacts the furnace atmosphere.

This is because most of the gas components produced or volatilized in these kilns are: H2, CO, NH3, CH4, etc., refractory fibers will undergo structural changes in these gas environments, especially at high temperatures. When ceramic fibers are used as work When the layer is used directly, these atmospheres will promote the destruction of the refractory fiber structure, that is, the crystallization speed is fast and the pulverization temperature is low.

Therefore, when the ceramic fiber module is used in the following types of furnaces, it can only be used as a non-working surface insulation layer, even if the furnace temperature only hovers between 950 degree and 1150 degree .

a. Various medium and low temperature kilns under reducing atmosphere, such as carburizing furnace, vacuum furnace, etc.;

b. Various furnaces with protective non-inert gases and furnaces that volatilize various gases from heated workpieces in the furnace during production, such as aluminum melting furnaces, special casting paraffin shell roasting furnaces, etc.
